Father charged with murder of baby

POLICE have charged a Gold Coast father with murder after the body of his six-month-old baby son was found on the banks of the Logan River yesterday morning.

On Saturday night the 38-year-old man allegedly took his son for a walk to the park below the M1, returned home alone, phoned police and said he and the infant had fallen from a bridge about 6.45pm.

A deserted pram was later found on the bridge overlooking the river.About 8.30am, police divers found the baby downstream from the bridge.

The father, who is reportedly known to police, has been remanded in custody and will front the Beenleigh Magistrates Court today.

Investigations are continuing.
