Creepy bald man stalks teen

JASON As is 37 and bald so he set up a fake Facebook account, falsely claimed he was 19, and he sexually preyed on a 13-year-old Mackay girl.

His Facebook profile said he was the "Darkness of Christ", and he had about 280 likes, mostly by people who were aged 17 to 19.

He had a very distant connection with the 13-year-old girl and asked her to become a friend.

She accepted, not knowing his sexual intentions.

Messages sent to the girl by As included comments that she was a "hot babe".

He asked her several times to send him pictures of herself naked.

His comments to her were like something out of a bad, frat-house movie, Judge David Reid said in the District Court in Mackay yesterday.

As, an unemployed labourer who resorted to excessive use of alcohol after a death in his family, pleaded guilty to using the internet to attempt to procure a child for a sexual act.

Crown prosecutor Melanie Franklin said a disturbing aspect of the offence was that As targeted an actual teenaged person, who was vulnerable because of her upbringing, deliberately seeking her out to prey on her.

The contact between the two also did not occur in a chatroom situation but involved a fake Facebook site, Ms Franklin said.

When caught, As told police he was only preparing the girl for what an older guy would ask of her.

Judge Reid said As appeared to have little or no insight into his offending; but he also said that, in some ways, the offence was fairly amateurish.

"Men who use the internet to procure lurid photos from young girls need to know they face jail," he said.

As was jailed for 18 months, to be suspended after serving three months.
