Facebook bullies attack teen over ute pictures
ROCKHAMPTON'S Jasmine Mooney is taking a stance against a Facebook page where her younger brother has been the victim of months of vile attacks.
Aron Boulton, 15, has been the victim of cyber bullying from a social media page known as "Anti B&S bush pig utes".
It all started after Aron had saved enough money to buy a ute from his brother and do it up.
He posted pictures of the ute online before he started to cop a cyber bashing from those against this type of ute.
Jasmine had noticed her brother had been upset for months but wasn't aware of his online torment.
"A friend of mine showed me this page that was threatening and abusing my brother," she said.
"I asked them to stop bullying him and leave him alone and they posted my photo on their page labelling me rude and offensive names."
Jasmine said it had taken a toll on Aron.
"This bullying has affected him," she said.
"I don't think people understand how much social media impacts the younger generation.
"The people on this page have been telling him to die and start cutting himself so I am very concerned for my brother."
Jasmine reported the Facebook page, calling for it to be removed.
She says she also contacted police.
"I don't know what else I can do," she said.
The page has been shut down a number of times but keeps reopening a new one every time."
Rockhampton police Detective Sergeant Jim Edwards said there were lots of things victims of cyber bulling, and their parents, could do.
"We provide a lot of advice on internet safety," Det-Sgt Edwards said. "It's very important for parents to monitor their child's online activity and have open communication about cyber bullies.
"People think they have the right to free speech online but it is an offence to misuse telecommunications and you can be charged."
- Install security options on your computer and Facebook settings.
- Tell a responsible adult if someone is bullying you
- Remove yourself from social media if you are a victim
