Eye and ear candy treat
A MODERN day melange of Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin and Stevie Wonder, Ashleigh Mannix is attracting both local and global attention for her a unique blend of music.
As a young, and maturing artist, Ashleigh's boundless sound floats somewhere in the realm of folk, rockabilly and blues fusion, and her uncompromising talent and truthful approach are taking her voice, song writing and performance to entirely new levels.
It sounds like Gympie is in for a treat tonight, when Ashleigh takes to the stage at Billy's as part of her tour of south-east Queensland with indie artist Lyall Maloney. As a completely independent artist, Ashleigh has supported both national and international acts, including Toni Childs, Ron Sexsmith, Teitur, Luka Bloom, Robert Wells, Citizen Cope and Michael Franti.
She has also performed at many local festivals including Woodford and the Queenscliff Music Festival, where her albums were the highest seller. She has been described as a "most exciting artist" that can stop an entire room when she sings - just her and her acoustic guitar.
Indie musician Lyall Moloney brings world music to Gympie in a style influenced by a recent trip to Africa.
