Extra QFES personnel and SES volunteers headed to CQ

EXTRA personnel from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and SES volunteers are en route to the region to help post Cyclone Marcia.

Reinforcements are on the way to help with recovery efforts, with personnel and volunteers making their way to Central Queensland in the coming days to support and relieve local crews who have been working tirelessly for their local communities.

Among them are QFES incident management teams (IMTs) from Brisbane Region, South Eastern Region and North Coast Region, who, along with mobile command centre '501 Tango', are currently en route to Rockhampton by road.

On arrival this afternoon, they will be settling in to the QFES flexible habitat, which was transported up to Rockhampton overnight.

Crews will be on the ground for the next five days in the worst affected areas, providing support to existing personnel.

These IMTs are joined by personnel with chainsaw capabilities, fire communication officers, peer support officers and other support personnel.

Volunteers in orange from across Queensland are also converging on central Queensland to provide support to and relieve local crews.

Alongside local SES volunteers from across central Queensland, a deployment of 40 from Townsville is currently on the ground and preparing to be met by a further team of 40 from Cairns who are en route to Rockhampton from Brisbane today.

This team is expected to hit the ground running from tomorrow.

Further SES teams are currently being organised from Cairns and Townsville, made up of a further 80 volunteers.

Media opportunities can be organised during these deployments. For more information, please contact the media team on (07) 3635 3310.
