Editorial: Events the way of the future

Editorial: WHETHER it was fish or pigs there were plenty of people hunting in the region last weekend.

The Rainbow Beach Family Fishing Classic wound up on Saturday night and The Big Boar Hunt concluded Sunday afternoon.

What both these events did for the Gympie region was attract people, and their money, from out of town.

There were more than 500 families at Rainbow Beach for the Fishing Classic and hundreds of hunters for the pig hunt.

That's people who wouldn't have been here and money that wouldn't have been spent here on any normal weekend.

Event tourism is one thing the council is working hard to improve in the Gympie region.

The more events the region hosts the better it is for our economy which flows on to much-needed jobs in the region.
