HAS the email already gone out about this year's Christmas party at your office?

If you're working for one of Queensland's state-owned corporations, expect a big one, with the giant firms budgeting close to $900,000 for functions in the last financial year alone.

The splashing of cash comes as the Queensland Government remains deep in debt.

NewsCorp reports the $885,644 have been used to pay for State of Origin tickets, Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival trips and Christmas parties of the 11 corporations owned by the state.

These include Gladstone Ports Corporation, Energex and Ergon Energy, Stanwell Corporation and North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation.

Earlier this year, the government added $6 billion to its state debt.

Ergon Energy alone budgeted $60,000 for its Christmas parties, but later clarified this also included corporate credit cards, not just the party itself.
