Engine issues have Ricciardo’s year on the skids
ONGOING mechanical issues threaten to derail Daniel Ricciardo's 2015 Formula One campaign.
The Aussie driver (pictured), who finished third on the overall standings in his first year with Red Bull in 2014, dropped to eighth (nine points) after finishing 10th behind former teammate Sebastian Vettel in Malaysia at the weekend.
Red Bull's Renault engines have not been able to match it with Mercedes, Ferrari and even Williams this year.
"It took a long time to pass cars - we didn't have the pace and we had some problems with the brakes which didn't make our afternoon easy," Ricciardo said.
Vettel's win for Ferrari saw him leapfrog Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) into second place on 40 points, just three behind defending champion and series leader Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).
Race three is in Shanghai on April 12.
