Hands off! Feet police take aim at the Aussie thong

THEY'RE a must at any backyard barbecue or visit to the beach, but is it time we flung our thongs into the scrapheap.

Medical experts are now warning thongs could be doing us physical damage.

The Australian Pain Management Association says Australians should skip the iconic thong to protect against development persistent pain.

CEO Elizabeth  Carrigan explains that wearing non-supportive shoes can lead to long-term pain in the feet, ankles, knees, and even hips and back.

"Our feet require arch support for optimum health, which thongs, many sandals and cheaper closed-in shoes often do not provide,' says Ms Carrigan.
