UPDATE: Pomona woman confirmed dead in Amamoor fatality

FURTHER UPDATE: Police have confirmed that the driver of an SUV who was killed instantly in a horror crash on the Mary Valley Hwy this afternoon was a 58 -year-old Pomona woman.

The woman was the sole occupant of a gun metal grey 4WD travelling south on the Mary Valley Hwy when it was involved in a crash with a B-double truck about 1km south of the Mary Valley Link Road, just before 2pm.

The earth moving  B-Double is believed to have been travelling north when the accident occurred. The male driver of the truck was transported by Queensland Ambulance Service crews to Nambour Hospital suffering from shock and minor injuries.

Traffic on the Mary Valley Hwy has been blocked in both directions since the accident, but has just begun to be diverted around the scene.

Acting Inspector for Queenland Fire and Emergency Services for Gympie and Noosa, Kent Mayne, said a forensic crash investigation investigation unit was on the scene trying to determine the cause of the tragedy.

EARLIER: TRAFFIC disruptions are expected on the Mary Valley Hwy following a reported fatality involving a car and truck.

The accident is believed to have taken place at about 2pm south of Gympie somewhere between Amamoor and the Mary Valley Link Rd.

A woman is understood to be deceased at the scene as emergency services rush to the site.

Motorists using the road are advised to expect delays and to proceed with caution.
