Election line-up begins
AS OF yesterday, Gympie State MP David Gibson faced opposition from Family First's Kathy Hawke and One Nation's Santo Ferraro, with no Gympie candidates yet announced by Labor, Katter's Australian Party or the Queensland Greens.
However, a successful opponent would have a long hard climb, by most assessments, to overcome Mr Gibson's 27.2% margin.
Similarly, on the Gympie electorate's north side, the LNP and KAP has announced candidates to oppose Maryborough Independent MP Chris Foley, who holds the seat by a margin of 16.8%.
The LNP, which came second to Mr Foley last election, has nominated Anne Maddern as its candidate.
Katter's Australian Party has nominated Gordon Dale as its candidate for Maryborough.
Callide, which takes up a proportion of the Gympie Region's west, is held for the LNP by its Parliamentary leader Jeff Seeney, with a margin of 19.4%. KAP has nominated Steve Ensby for the seat.
In Nicklin, Peter Wellington, who holds the seat with a 16.3% margin, is opposed by the LNP's John Connolly and KAP's Matthew Smith.
In Noosa, held by the LNP's Glen Elmes with a 20% margin, will also be contested by Labor's Kurt Hopkins, KAP's Bob Jarvis and the Greens' Jim McDonald.
