Early birds collect $1000

THE CAVE family from Jones Hill were rewarded for ordering their school stationery early in a promotion run by a Gympie newsagency.

Karen Keeffe from Gympie Mary St News partnered with Sheryl Laird of Gympie Getaway Travel to provide a prize holiday package for one early bird family.

Those who put their book lists in early went into the draw to win a $1000 travel voucher.

Mrs Keefe said the idea was to make life easier during the "hectic" back to school period.

"It worked. Everything ran smoothly where in days gone by it was a nightmare with last minute orders. And suppliers run short as well," she said.

Last minute orders halved thanks to the promotion. "We usually hand out booklists early and like to have them back when school finishes.

Early December is good so we can have them packed by Christmas and people can start picking them up."
