Drug raids couple bailed

A NORTH Deep Creek couple appeared in Gympie Magistrates Court yesterday on six drug, weapon and property charges.

The charges allege drug trafficking between January 1 last year and yesterday, as well as drug possession over a specified quantity, possession of money and property allegedly derived from crime, possession of an unlicensed handgun and possession of property allegedly used to commit a crime, all dated Wednesday this week.

Grazier Michael Robert Rooney, 54, and Belinda Jane Gehringer, 48, a dog breeder, both of Forest Rd were both remanded on bail to appear in the court again on February 18.

Rooney was also charged with possessing a restricted item, an extendable baton, on Wednesday.

The Magistrates Court was told police raided the couple's home as part of a drug operation.

In another matter before the court yesterday, Shaun Joseph Maudsley, 31, of Oyster Pde, Tin Can Bay, was remanded in custody on a charge of armed robbery.

Maudsley is charged with having robbed a Noosaville Dominos Pizza delivery driver, while armed with a knife.

He was remanded to appear again in the court on February 11.

And a child, 16, was placed on nine months probation when he pleaded guilty in the court to stealing chocolate bars and alcohol from the One Mile School, on or about Monday of this week.

The court was told a group of young people had decided to break into the school but fled when the alarm went off.
