Drowned man's identity a mystery

THE identity of a man, whose heavily-tattooed body washed up on a NSW beach earlier this month, remains a mystery.

About 11pm Saturday, March 12, emergency services were called to North Cronulla Beach after passers-by found the body on the shore.

Police released pictures of two distinctive tattoos, both featuring birds of prey, on the man's arms but, so far, no-one has come forward with information.

The man is described as Caucasian and aged in his 50s.

A post mortem revealed the likely cause of death was drowning and a report is being prepared for Coroner.

Anyone with information can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
