Driver was over limit

THE driver who lost control of his car on April 3 and crashed it on Gympie Woolooga Road was over the limit, Gympie Magistrates Court learned.

Cameron David Smith, 24, had driven to the shops and was on his way home when his Toyota HiLux skidded sideways around a left hand bend, missing two cars before hitting an embankment and rolling onto its side.

Smith was ejected out of the car onto the roadway with the vehicle landing on top of his legs and lower part of his body. Three witnesses pushed the HiLux off him and provided first aid until the ambulance arrived. Smith’s blood was tested for drugs and alcohol at the hospital and he was found to have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.158 per cent. Smith, of Matthew Road, The Palms, was convicted and fined $800 and lost his licence for six months.
