Dragons still have some fight left

NRL: Dragons fullback Adam Quinlan says he has seen enough good signs to assure fans of the Red V that his team still has some fight left in 2014.

Consecutive thrashings by the Roosters, Eels and Rabbitohs have dropped the club to 13th on the ladder ahead of Saturday night's local derby against the Sharks at WIN Stadium.

That slide cost coach Steve Price his job, and new boss Paul McGregor surprised many by shifting regular custodian Josh Dugan to right centre and playing Quinlan at fullback in Monday night's 29-10 loss to the Rabbitohs.

Dugan copped criticism from some quarters for his performance, but not from Quinlan.

"Duges is world class - you can play him anywhere and he can beat four or five blokes at once," Quinlan told APN.

"I thought he was great on Monday night. Defensively he was outstanding."

Quinlan also strongly backed under-fire five-eighth Benji Marshall to bounce back from two shaky appearances for the Dragons following a failed stint in Super Rugby.

"Unfortunately for Benji he's been the focus of some criticism, but we haven't been listening to all that," Quinlan said.

"He's adjusting to a new team really well because he's a great character to have around.

"He brings so much class to our training sessions - it's just a matter of getting him out on the paddock more and more."

While disappointed with his own effort against the Rabbitohs, Quinlan said he was "really excited and eager to be back in the top side".
