Triffitt case will be heard in Mackay's District Court
A MORANBAH woman accused of torturing children will stand trial in the District Court in Mackay.
Michaela Jan Triffitt has pleaded not guilty to one count each of torture and deprivation of liberty and two counts of common assault on October 25 last year.
The matter was committed to the higher court by way of registry committal on Tuesday, the Moranbah Courthouse registrar Leonie Bauer said.
A Notice of Intention to Proceed Via Registry Committal form was completed by both prosecution and the defence solicitor.
It was a "procedural matter", Ms Bauer said. No appearance was made by anyone in relation to the matter.
The Director of Public Prosecutions now has six months to present an indictment to the District Court, if they choose to.
Triffitt is a former employee of the Moranbah Learning Centre, where the alleged offences were said to have occurred on September 18 last year.
The charges related to two alleged incidents involving children who attended the centre.
