Dick Smith could run against Tony Abbott in next election

ENTREPRENEUR and political activist Dick Smith has admitted he is considering having a tilt in politics, in Tony Abbott's seat of Warringah.

Mr Smith told ABC radio he may run in the 2016 election in an interview this morning after being awarded one of Australia's highest honours, a companion (AC) of the Order of Australia for service to the community, humanitarian and social welfare programs, to medical research, the visual arts and to aviation.

He said he would like to focus on aviation reforms and put an end to the "pathetic political strutting" in Canberra regarding same-sex marriage.

"It's a basic human rights issue," Mr Smith said.

"I just turn off with the pathetic political strutting.

"We all know it's going to happen.

"I wish the prime minister would just do it. Show some leadership and get on with it."
