Devils' juniors also chase glory
AS the Gympie Devils A Grade boys prepare for a grand final date next weekend against an opponent decided tomorrow, the club’s junior players are also hunting for the ultimate glory.
Both the Devils under-13 and 15 teams are through to their respective grand finals in the Sunshine Coast competition today.
Topping the competition ladder as minor premiers, the two sides have strong claims on the premiership.
The under-13 side is coached by Rob White and will shape up to Caloundra while Kev Hooker is at the helm of the Under 15s facing off against Stanley Rivers.
Both games are to be played in neutral territory in Maroochydore and the Gympie coaches were optimistic of success.
White said he was happy with effort from his players this week as they had really put in, heading into the big game.
“The boys have trained well and now it’s just a matter of going out there and executing,” he said.
“We spoke about the big A Grade game next weekend and that we could set the winning tone for the club.”
Hooker, meanwhile, tipped a close game against Stanley Rivers, despite downing the side 44-8 in a major semi-final to win through to the grand final. “We’re not taking that result for granted and we will have to work hard,” he said.
