Deluge denies Gold yet again

WET weather again denied the Gympie Offroad Gold XI cricket side the opportunity to sink its teeth into a new season of Sunshine Coast top division cricket.

The Gold was due to travel away for a one day match against Caboolture on Saturday.

Deciding to cancel the one day game was straightforward for match officials, who made the decision the night before following 140mm of rain.

The week before, the start of a two day fixture against Caboolture was canned after vandals pulled the covers off the wicket during wet weather.

Gympie Gold senior player Troy Ashton said the round was now lost.

“Both teams will share points from the round,” he said.

“It’s disappointing because it’s two weeks now we have not been able to get a start, so hopefully we get a run this weekend.”

The Gold plays its second round match against Glasshouse Mountains at Albert Park this Saturday, commencing at 10.30am.

Strong home crowd support is encouraged for the encounter.
