Possible 12 month delay before alleged shooter fronts court

IT COULD be 12 months before the man charged in connection with the region's most high-profile shooting, has his day in court.

Police allege Kane Smith fired the shot which left Hervey Bay's Robert Fletcher with a bullet wound to the stomach but because no complaint was made, they could not press charges of attempted murder or grievous bodily harm.

Instead, he is charged with weapons offences.

Smith's lawyer Michael Riddell asked for an adjournment until there was an outcome in a District Court case against two alleged witnesses charged with similar offences.
