Honeymoon bike tragedy

MOTORCYCLING enthusiast Pamela Boal's tragic death while returning from an adventure honeymoon has left her husband David Hedger a shattered man.

The newlyweds had been participating in a charity motorbike ride from Barcaldine to Broome when Mr Hedger received news his father had died.

Mrs Boal and Mr Hedger, both 52, left their fellow riders to head home for the funeral and were travelling east along the Warrego Hwy last Tuesday when tragedy struck.

Mr Hedger was riding his motorcycle about 50 metres ahead of his wife shortly before 10pm.

They were about 15km east of Chinchilla when the driver of an oncoming car lost control of his vehicle and careered onto the wrong side of the road, side swiping Mrs Boal.

"We had a rider two-way communication unit," Mr Hedger said.

"Pamela had it on permanently that night.

"All I heard was 'oh .... and then it went dead."

Mrs Boal died at the scene.

Mr Hedger said they had stopped in Roma that day to replace the rear tyre on his motorcycle.

They had inquired about accommodation for the night but everything in the town was booked.

"The nearest was in Dalby.

"That is where we were headed."

Mr Hedger said his wife had a huge smile and was passionate about animal welfare.

"She loved riding motorbikes."

The Brisbane couple were married on April 21.

Mrs Boal's funeral will be held on Friday.
