Day six: kangaroo still trapped, has a sleep

THE eastern grey kangaroo stuck in a Locke St residence had a snooze today, blissfully unaware of the stir she's caused within the community.

Authorities are continuing to pass the buck in claiming responsibility for the animal; Southern Downs Regional Council, The RSPCA and Warwick Wildlife alike saying there's nothing they can do for the kangaroo.

A spokeswoman from the RSPCA said the organisation was not in the business of relocating healthy animals.

"If it's stuck in wire or physically trapped we can help," she said.

"If there is gate the homeowner can open, then we recommend they do that.

"But unless it is actually stuck or injured, we're not licensed to help."

Warwick Wildlife said it advised the resident to open her front gate to let the kangaroo out, but the resident refused saying it was too busy a street to let a kangaroo loose on.

The group said it was licensed to rescue injured and orphaned animals, and were also unable to help.

The resident said a member from Queensland Rail might come out and open part of the large, wire fence that separates the Locke St houses from the rail line, but would only do so as a last resort.

"I'm nervous that the only other option is euthanising her," the resident said.

What do you think? Should somebody free the animal from the yard?
