Day, Scott on WGC collision course

AUSTRALIA'S number one and two golfers Jason Day and Adam Scott are set on a collision course for a championship showdown at the World Golf Championships (WGC) Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona.

Sitting on either side of the draw - Day in the Gary Player bracket and Scott in the Bobby Jones bracket - the pair could potentially square-off for a shot at the $1.4 million winner's purse.

But it will be a tough road to the final match for the pair, with the world's elite all vying for the first WGC championship of the year at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Dove Mountain.

Just progressing from their brackets will be a feat in itself for last year's U.S. Masters' runner-ups.

The Gary Player bracket contains last year's U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy, former U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy and Day's Masters' conqueror - South African Charl Schwartzel - while Scott has the daunting task of contending with world number one Luke Donald and multiple grand slam winners Ernie Els and Retief Goosen.

Fellow Australians Greg Chalmers and Aaron Baddeley (Ben Hogan bracket) will attack from the bottom half of the draw, but will not be looking past their difficult first round encounters with Chalmers taking on former PGA Champion Martin Kaymer and Baddeley paired against former British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen.

Queenslander John Senden will meet England's Simon Dyson in his first round match, creating a potential second round meeting with Day.
