David Gibson

LNP candidate David Gibson, 44, has been the Member for Gympie since 2006 and is your Cando LNP candidate for Gympie for the upcoming State election.

He lives locally with his wife Alicia and their two youngest children, and is involved with a number of community groups including the Gympie Apex Club and the Tin Can Bay Coastguard.

He has been a leader in many organisations over the years and is currently on the board of Deaf Services Queensland, he takes his role as a father of five children as one of his most important responsibilities.

Born in Fremantle, WA, David is a graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon and served as an army officer for 8½ years before embarking on a career in media marketing and management.

He is a man of solid family values, passion and unwavering commitment to getting it right for the people of the Gympie electorate.

A child of two disabled parents, Mr Gibson knows first-hand how difficult life can be for some in the community.

Aged 44, Gibson is a graduate of the Royal Military College Duntroon and served as an army officer before embarking on a career in media marketing and management.

He was general manager of The Gympie Times until he stepped down to campaign full time for the 2006 election.

He has also served on the board of the Australian Institute of Country Music.

Since his election in 2006 he has served in several shadow portfolios, currently Opposition spokesman on Local Government and Sport.

Both of Mr Gibson's parents were deaf, which is the reason why he recently welcomed the election of New Zealand Green MP Mojo Mathers, not for her politics but as the country's first profoundly deaf MP.

However he also knows what a great country we live in and what incredible opportunities are available for those who are willing to try.

David witnessed first hand what the policies of the Bligh Labor Government were doing to Gympie. He saw that we needed someone who was capable to stand up for the people and had the courage to fight for them.

He has worked tirelessly over the past five and a half years as the Member for Gympie representing the people of Gympie in Parliament, and is committed to bringing about an end to the tired, 20 year old Labor Government, cutting the waste and making this great state CanDo Queensland, powered by Queenslanders, not politics.

Mr Gibson attributes much of his political success to his ability to develop relationships with people who can make a difference.

He said building a good rapport with people is important for achieving, and sometimes it means breaking down old political barriers.

If David wins the seat of Gympie he says he will do the following for Gympie residents:

  1. Lower the cost of living for families by cutting the waste by freezing a families car rego for the first term of an LNP government and reforming electricity tariffs to save households up to $330 per year.
  2. Deliver better infrastructure and planning by ensuring the Bruce Highway Bypass is built and planning to protect out our prime agricultural land.
  3. Revitalise Gympie's frontline services by getting back to the basics and delivering quality services at our local hospital, supporting our local teachers and schools and ensuring our local Police are able to do their job.
