UPDATE: Dangerous surf conditions are expected to develop about the Queensland coast south from Sandy Cape during today.

Dangerous surf conditions are likely to persist during Tuesday and Wednesday when some beach erosion may occur along the exposed coastline.

Locations likely to be affected include: the east coast of Fraser Island, the east coasts of Moreton Island and North and South Stradbroke Islands, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.

  • Surf Life Saving Australia recommends that you stay out of the water and stay well away from the surf-exposed areas.
  • Check your property regularly for erosion or inundation by sea water, and if necessary raise goods and electrical items.
  • For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The Bureau of Meteorology first issued a severe weather warning for dangerous surf on Sunday.

At 4am EST, a low [1000 hPa] was situated about 350km east of Sandy Cape and moving southeast. The low is expected to be located well east of the southeast Queensland coast by tonight, moving east during Tuesday.

A high [1029 hPa] entering the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge through the Queensland interior. The combination of these two systems will lead to increasing waves and swells over southern Queensland waters.

 

Dangerous surf conditions incoming

INCREASED  waves and swell generating dangerous surf conditions are expected to hit the Sunshine Coast from Monday.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning Sunday afternoon for people in coastal parts of the Wide Bay and south-east coast.

A developing low off the Capricornia coast was expected to move southeastwards over the next 24 hours and should be situated off the far southeast coast of Queensland by Monday morning.

A high in the Tasman Sea will extend a ridge through the Queensland interior.

The combination of these two systems will lead to increasing waves and swells over southern Queensland waters.
