Dancing Devils have competition

BIG boofy footy players have been joined by cricketers, hockey and soccer players and even a kickboxer for this year's Dancing with the Devils extravaganza.

The dance-off will see 14 twinkled-toed couples dance the salsa and tango at the Pavilion on Saturday, July 28.

Defending last year's title won by Riley McDowall and Danny Benson for the Devils, are teammates Ben Ashford and Kelly Backhouse, Brad English and Shelly Grady, Tim Wyvill and Jemma Clifford, Josh Greaves and Alissa Corbet along with Kane Ernst and Karolyn Kimmince.

The Devils won't have an easy run to glory with the Gympie Gold XI's captain Steven Brady and partner Jade Lawler teamed with fast bowler Travis Chandler and Kim Reinhardt for a shot at glory.

The Gympie Cats have Billy Mitchell and Corey Wickson dancing, their partners are Sommer Turner and Cassie Butler while soccer is represented by Adam and Courtney Cross.

Cooloola Heat hockey side has put its faith in Daniel Naismith and his partner Katrina Andrews. The Mary Valley Stags are taking on the Devils with Anthony Smerdon and his partner Esther Rich.

Kickboxer Billy Degomoius and his partner Jen Whitfield are the 14th couple.

Co-organiser Melissa Payne said this year's event was set to be huge and was the major fundraiser for the rugby league club. Currently 160 tickets have been sold and the club was hoping for a crowd of more than 300.

Miss Payne said professional dancers would also take to the floor and there would be plenty of entertainment. Tickets are $20 from the Empire Hotel.
