Curra chooks lay giant eggs
THERE is definitely something in the water out Curra way and it produces giant eggs.
On September 1, Curra resident Ian Gordon went to the chook pen to find a 125 gram egg, twice the size of a normal egg, one of his free range hens had laid.
Not to be outdone, Curra resident Ted Mulder’s chooks decided to go one better.
On Sunday morning one of his hens produced a monster 130gm egg.
Like Mr Gordon’s chooks, the Mulders’ lot have free range over 2.5 acres. They are fed layer pellets and coarse grain and shell grit plus scraps.
Mr Mulder said, best of all, his his chooks were fed some of their own eggs – hard boiled of course.
“Every morning they scramble to get the best bits,” he said.
“They also have to put up with a pesky little bantam rooster who thinks they are there for his enjoyment.”
