Crossing safety a key priority

A MIXTURE of innovation and awareness will be used by the Newman government to tackle safety problems at railway crossings.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson yesterday called for expressions of interest for level crossing safety trials later this year.

Mr Emerson's call follows Queensland Rail's new level crossing safety campaign.

Last year, there were 472 incidents where motorists risked death by failing to follow directions.
