Cross-border drug carriers busted by police
TARGETED policing of drug supplies across the Queensland border has resulted in two men facing serious charges.
Stanthorpe police allegedly found two vacuum sealed bags containing about 900g of cannabis and a clip seal bag with what officers believe to be ice in a vehicle search at the weekend.
Stanthorpe police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said two men, aged 37 and 49, were arrested and charged after their vehicle travelling south on the New England Hwy was stopped about noon Saturday.
A search of the vehicle allegedly located the two quantities of drugs.
The men, believed to be travelling to Armidale, were charged with possessing dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia.
"This follows the interception of another vehicle about a week ago resulting in the location of about 16g of ice and over $11,000," Snr Sgt Ireland said.
"In that case, the vehicle was returning to Tamworth."
About 25g of cannabis was found in a McGregor Terrace premises on July 7, resulting in a 14-year-old child and 50-year-old man entering into drug diversion.
Police allege they found the drug concealed beneath the house as well as used syringes and smoking utensils.
