
Cricket: Valleys win A-Grade, Rainbow the Reserve
VALLEYS took home the big win for Gympie region cricket in the A-Grade one day grand final at Gympie's One Mile sports fields on Sunday.
In the Reserve match, Rainbow Beach took home the win.
And Sunshine Coast veterans won the over-60s friendly in a day of great cricket and comfortable cricketing weather.
But Gympie veteran player Ross Chapman said the Sunshine Coast team's victory over Wide Bay was not without the help of ex-Gympie player Phil Drescher, who started his career with Valleys.
In the A-Grade, Valleys made 125 runs with seven wickets down, while Wests made 123 in nine wickets in the 50-over contest.
At Reserve Grade, Rainbow Beach players, in theri second year in the competition, batted to 205, compared to 49 by the Colts.
Gympie Regional Cricket Association president Rod Venn said it was a great day.
"The weather was kine, especially compared to Saturday," he said.
"And there was a good roll-up of spectators and good support from across the clubs."
