Cricket masters team announced
AFTER weeks of teasing, The Gympie Times can now lift the veil on the team of Australian cricket greats visiting Gympie next month as part of the Australian Cricketers’ Association Masters Tour.
The outstanding list of names includes: Andy Bichel, Greg Blewett, Greg Campbell, Ryan Campbell, Rodney Hogg, Michael Kasprowicz, Darren Lehmann, Jimmy Maher, Greg Matthews, Tom Moody and Greg Ritchie.
It’s a list that will have even the most casual of cricket fans trembling with excitement.
The Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) Masters Tour will be in town between November 6 and 8.
Gympie Regional Council economic development and public relation officer Sue Paterson described the visit as “an event not to be missed”.
Paterson has also released details of the program for the Masters Tour’s stay in Gympie.
The tour, after arriving on November 6, officially begins with a memorabilia and autograph signing session at Centro Gympie. This session will run from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
After a short break, the cricket legends will attend a Sportsman’s Dinner at the Gympie Civic Centre from 6.30pm to 10pm.
The next day, playing cricket will be the focus with Albert Park becoming the focus of attention.
Gates will open at 8am ahead of an exhibition match at 9am.
As the Albert Park grounds swell with spectators, the main match at 1.30pm, a Twenty20 game, presents a unique opportunity to see a hand-picked team of Gympie’s best cricketers accepting a challenge to play the ACA Masters.
For Gympie’s cricketers, it will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity never to be forgotten as players boldly step up to face Kasprowicz’s fearsome deliveries or confront the batting excellence of Queensland great Jimmy Maher.
When the heat of battle subsides, an after-match function to be held at the Gympie RSL will be opportunity to mingle with players and share the day’s highlights.
The final day of the tour, November 8, starts with a supporters’ breakfast with the Masters players at a venue yet to be finalised, followed by a series of coaching clinics at Gympie schools.
An event of his magnitude is a rarity for Gympie and cricket fans will be extracting full value from the experience.
