North Queensland Cowboys liking chances against Rabbitohs

COWBOYS coach Paul Green said he believes his team is a huge chance of upsetting defending premier South Sydney at ANZ Stadium tonight.

Green pointed out the Rabbitohs could struggle without injured halfback Adam Reynolds, who suffered a knee injury in his team's controversial 18-17 win over the Bulldogs last round.

North Queensland's playmaker Johnathan Thurston (pictured), meanwhile, is in fine form, masterminding his team's wins over the Storm and Panthers in the past two weeks.

"Any team that loses their key playmaker will find it a big loss," Green said.

Green said his team - despite its two recent impressive wins - could still find some improvement.

The Cowboys let in 16 first-half points against the Storm in round five at home, before overpowering the visitors in the second half and golden point extra-time.

"I think we can defend better and that constantly trying to be better is what the season is all about," Green said.

"For us it's about continually working to be better."

Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire is wary of the form Thurston has found after the Cowboys' slow 0-3 start to this season.

"They've got great halves like Johnathan Thurston and we all know what he's capable of doing," he said.

"They have the likes of (front-rowers) (Matt) Scott, (James) Tamou and many more.

"These sorts of battles are why you play the game - two big forward packs and quality edges."

A key edge battle will be the one between dynamic representative back-rowers Gavin Cooper (Cowboys) and Glenn Stewart (Rabbitohs).

Thurston will play his 220th game for the Cowboys, putting him second on the all-time list behind Matt Bowen (270).
