Court to hear of rape ordeal

AN alleged multiple rapist, arrested in Rockhampton at the weekend, will appear in court in the city this morning.

The 31-year-old is accused of subjecting a 54-year-old Rockhampton woman to a sustained and violent sexual assault at her home early on Saturday where it is claimed he repeatedly raped her.

Police say he was arrested and charged with three counts of rape, assault with intent to commit rape and being in a dwelling with intent.

He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant relating to similar offences allegedly committed in February last year.

Police said that the man had been charged with rape, assault with intent to commit rape and break and enter related to an incident a year ago.

Officers were reluctant to reveal too many details yesterday but it is understood the accused was known to the complainant and allegedly entered her Rockhampton residence about 6am.

Police have not revealed how he came to be arrested, or in which part of the city the offences are alleged to have been committed, but said it was not a random attack.

More information is expected to come to light about the woman's ordeal when the arrested man appears at Rockhampton Magistrates Court today.
