Country star's a winner

THERE were two celebrations this month for Noosa country-pop singer Taylor Moss.

One for her 17th birthday and the other as the winner in the junior category of the Urban Country Music Talent Search.

The TAFE music student with a big ambition and even bigger talent performed her own songs to win the highly regarded quest held in Keith Urban's hometown of Caboolture.

"There were 30 contestants and then it came down to five semi-finalists," Taylor said.

The win means Taylor will contest the Queensland Champion of Champions festival in November.

"It's one of the most prestigious awards an amateur country music artist can win," she said.

Piano is the first instrument for the former Tewantin primary and Sunshine Beach high school student, but she took up guitar when she was 13.

She plans to use her talent search prize money for further recording.

Taylor has kept up her public performances by organising her own gigs and is booked out until September.
