Country girls bring glamour

SIXTY STUNNING country girls brought glamour to Maryborough at the weekend when the Miss Country Girl competition came to Station Square Shopping Centre.

The regional model search attracted entrants from the Sunshine Coast up to Bundaberg, all wanting to win and progress to the national level of the competition.

Three heats were held as the 19 finalists strutted their stuff on the catwalk.

Despite a good showing from the Fraser Coast, the winner was 17-year-old Olivia Sallaway, from Gympie.

Olivia said she'd been practising hard for the event and had even set up a catwalk in her house to perfect her moves.

Organiser Sally Miles said it was a tough competition and Olivia impressed the judges with her good looks, natural talent, stage presence and genuine smile on the catwalk.

She will travel to the national final in Sydney this November, where she will experience the spotlight with media training, acting classes, modelling workshops, photo shoots and a make over styled by Label B by Toni & Guy.

The national final will be on the Bella Vista cruise ship on Sydney Harbour with guests including media, celebrities, scouts and agency representatives.
