Country a cut above City boys

COUNTRY stamped its authority over City in the Queensland Cup clash at Albert Park at the weekend, winning 20-12.

Queensland Country won the feature match of the day in a game televised live on ABC TV.

Country opened its account as half back Daly Cherry-Evans received a lucky break, kicking the ball off the upright post to set up the first try of the day

The side was able to extend its lead when Shannon Walker added the finishing touches to a huge 50-metre try.

The flow of the game was temporarily halted when City collected an intercept.

However, the switch in fortunes was short-lived as Cherry-Evans emerged yet again, scoring to take Country’s lead to 14-6.

Ten minutes later, Country crossed once more to blow the score out to 20-12, sealing the victory.

The game showcased the Albert Park venue and an exuberant Gympie crowd formed the dramatic backdrop to the match.

Eager footy spectators not only filled the Albert Park grandstand and lined the field, but also claimed prime real estate on the hill adjacent to the oval’s scoreboard.
