Countbacks determine golf winners
COUNTBACKS were needed to determine both the A and B Grade Veteran golfers monthly medal winners this week.
In the end Joe Simaile triumphed over the unlucky Lionel Muir to win A Grade while Brian Taylor edged out the equally unfortunate Ray Lindsay to win B Division.
Simaile playing off a 16 handicap had a nett 68 while Taylor carded an impressive 65 nett on a course which is finally showing signs of recovery after the recent and prolonged wet weather setbacks.
“I played very consistent golf but if I had to single out one part of my game that helped me win today, it had to be my putting,” chirped Simaile.
Ball rundown to 70: John Kenny, Vince Andrews, Con Meares, Lindsay Taylor, Col Horswood, Mike Linnane, Rod Walker, Bob McPherson, Ross Plowman, Brian Carroll.
Hole 16 accuracy shot: Bob McPherson, Col Smith, Doug Cunningham, Lindsay Taylor, Phil Barry.
The Gympie veterans host day on Monday this week received good support from both the Caloundra and Tin Can Bay clubs.
Gympie Vets President Bryan Stallard said he was delighted with the visitor numbers.
“Gympie has always been a strong supporter of other clubs’ host days so it was good to see that support reciprocated,” he said.
Ray Rigbye played consistent golf to win the A grade single stableford event with 41 points while runner up Mike Linnane carded a creditable 38 points.
Next Wednesday members will play a 4BBB stableford event for trophies donated by Brian Taylor and Merv Brand.
