Council’s debate on the money
IT WAS great to see the rubber stamp was put aside for some robust debate at the Gympie Regional Council meeting yesterday.
For the first time in a long, long time every councillor had a say, on the record, before an issue was voted on.
It was a refreshing change.
The decision to move forward with plans to build a levee to protect the CBD against flooding is one of the biggest the council has ever made and it warranted debate.
But I would like to see the trend continue in future meetings.
Open council debate gives us, the voting
public, some insight into what our elected representatives are thinking.
It gives us information that can help us form opinions about who we should or shouldn't be voting for when the next council election comes around.
It's what democracy is all about.
So keep up the good work, councillors, it's what the region deserves.
