Councillors vote on own

GYMPIE region councillors remained tight lipped when one of their own had an application to change conditions for a subdivision up for approval in this week’s Planning and Development Committee.

Cr Tony Perrett left the room declaring a material personal interest in the subdivision, to create one additional lot in Kilkivan.

No one else spoke except for committee chair Cr Ian Petersen in mentioning the item.

There was no discussion and Cr Graham Engeman moved the motion to issue a negotiated decision notice to Cr Perrett.

The negotiated decision notice will allow him to make a contribution of $12,000 to council instead of road works to the Hall Street property.

Originally works were required to provide a four metre lane from the centre of the existing sealed road with drive over kerb and channel for the frontage of both the new lots.

Cr Perrett submitted to council that if he complied with the condition, then a random piece of kerb and channel would exist in Hall Road and it would be unlikely that any more would be provided.

Cr Rae Gate seconded the motion and it was carried.
