Council left in the dark

GYMPIE Regional Council only found out by accident that it is the enforcement agency for the State Government’s new Sustainability Declaration process, which requires anyone selling a house, townhouse or unit to declare energy-saving features.

The newer two-page “simplified” version requires vendors to state obvious details such as the colour of the roof and the presence of energy-efficient lights and ceiling fans, as well as information about less visible energy-saving features.

Although council is already required to enforce the new rules, it has never been notified of this, councillors were told last week.

Cr Ian Petersen said he only had information as sent to real estate agents because he still had his licence.
