Council hosts women's conference

GYMPIE Regional Council is hosting the 2010 Australian Local Government Women's Association Conference at the Gympie Civic Centre, July 28 to 30.

“This conference is an excellent opportunity for women in management, government and business to participate in an event which will feature inspiring and informative speakers and also take advantage of excellent networking opportunities,” Cr Rae Gate said.

“Council has been fortunate to secure speakers of the calibre of Peter Buckley, former News Director for FM104/MMM and the former Assistant News Director for B105FM Brisbane and Samantha Johnson, Special Counsel in the planning, infrastructure and environment team at Herbert Greer, Brisbane,” Cr Gate said.

“Attendees will also hear from Jeanette Davis, Manager Strategic Planning at Southern Downs Regional Council and Allana Corbin, survivor of a tragic plane crash and proof that you can overcome adversity and realize remarkable achievements.”

Minister for Local Government and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Desley Boyle will be attending and opening the conference.

The work of the Australian Local Government Women's Association is invaluable in promoting the interests of women in local government and also promoting the advantage of careers for women in local government.
