Costly trip for pack of ciggies

A MAN has lost his licence for six months after pleading guilty to driving more than twice the legal limit in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court yesterday.

The court heard the Mackay driver had a blood-alcohol percentage of 0.119 when he was stopped by police in August this year.

The driver, representing himself in court, said he had given up drinking "completely" since the incident.

"I had a few beers on the verandah and went to get some smokes," he said.

The Magistrate said the trip had been a very costly one for the man, and fined him $1000.
