Caught doing 190kmh in a 70 zone on Sunshine Coast

POLICE have clocked motorists at eye-watering speeds on two of the Sunshine Coast's busiest stretches of road, on the final day of the Easter Road Safety Campaign.

A driver was clocked doing a staggering 223kmh in a 110kmh zone on the Bruce Hwy, Glass House Mountains yesterday.

The Nicklin Way at Warana became something of a drag strip, after another motorist was caught doing 190kmh in a 70kmh zone.

Another driver was stung west of Caboolture doing 150kmh in a 90kmh zone on the D'Aguilar Hwy at Wamuran.

They were just three of more than 4300 drivers caught speeding on Easter Monday across the state.

The speeding drivers were caught on the same day a Brisbane family was ripped apart in a horror Bruce Hwy crash south of Maryborough.

The double fatality occurred yesterday afternoon after a vehicle believed to be in the overtaking lane veered right, clipped a vehicle before colliding head-on with a third vehicle.

Emergency services were called to the crash just after 3pm.

The driver and passenger of the third vehicle, a 30-year-old woman and 22-year-old man, were killed instantly as a result of the crash which left the highway closed until 10pm.
