COOROY teen Isaac McGovern was spared the chopping block despite four heads rolling in Monday night's first live elimination on The Voice.
McGovern just scraped through, claiming 53% of the vote, which left him relieved and his Coast fans happy.
Teammate Taila Gouge was not so lucky.
Last week was tough for McGovern.
He was forced to say goodbye to his aunt who died. He had to deal with the loss away from family and friends, tackle a new song choice and juggle the stress of live elimination.
He chose to channel his feelings of loss into his performance of Goo Goo Dolls' Iris, his aunt's favourite song.
"I wanted to be myself this week because if I was going to go I wanted to go as me," he said.
While he couldn't find a word to describe how he felt while performing this week, he felt a lot happier about his song choice and being able to dedicate something to his aunt.
But while he may be safe this week, the competition is set to intensify.
With this, the pressure to nail the weekly song choice is something that has become more of a concern for McGovern.
"We're looking at the next song," he said.
"I haven't picked it yet.
"A song was picked but I wasn't too happy with it."
