Kart racers hit home track hard

GYMPIE competitors showed what a home track advantage could do at the Cooloola Coast Kart Club’s inaugural Cooloola Junior Gold meet.

Held over the long weekend, organisers were dubbing the competition an “outstanding success”.

Cooloola Coast Kart Club President Dale Coomber couldn’t contain his excitement.

“It was a great meeting and one of the less stressful we’ve had, that’s for sure,” he said.

“We’re already trying to turn up the heat for next year.”

Coomber paid tribute to the spirit shown by competitors.

“One team camped in their pit shelter,” he said.

“When the temperature dropped to three degrees on Sunday morning, I’m sure that wouldn’t have been pleasant, but they were still smiling.”

Gympie competitors were among those to finish on the podium.
