Cooinda calls for help
COOINDA Aged Care Centre is calling for more volunteers to help in their busy cafe.
There is a desperate need for help in the Chatterbox Cafe, which serves sandwiches, burgers, coffee and much more.
Cooinda is looking for semi-retired people, mums or anyone who is happy to spare some of their time.
The aged care centre has about 40 volunteers at the moment but HR co-ordinator Sonia Beamish says she needs more helpers at the cafe.
"I need about five volunteers to help out and interact with our visitors,'' Ms Beamish said.
"We will provide training in the kitchen and for the coffee machine."
The community-owned cafe is open 9.30am-1.30pm Monday to Friday. It is open to the public but specially designed for residents and staff.
"The cafe is becoming busier and ,with the lack of volunteers, on some days we have had to close the cafe," Ms Beamish said.
Volunteers are needed to work twice a week.
Long-time volunteer Denise Jenkins helps out at least three times week.
"It is very fulfilling and satisfying for me to see the happy faces on my customers and to see the profits being put back into the Cooinda community," Ms Jenkins said.
All profits from the cafe are reinvested into Cooinda's age care services.
"It is a really valued cafe," Ms Beamish said.
If you would like to become a volunteer, phone 5482 1900 or pop in and see the staff at the reception and ask for a green form.
