GOTCHA: So when conditions are right it will be worth trying North Reef where there have been good catches of coral trout, pearl perch, venus tusk fish, hussar and moses perch.

There was a 60cm coral trout caught there last week.

Snapper, cobia and sweetlip are still on the close reefs off Coolum while school and spotty mackerel are on the bite between the close reefs between Caloundra and Coolum.

Cougar One's charter to Double Island Point earlier in the week was a success, with the crew catching red emperor, gold band snapper, grass sweetlip, moses perch, gold spot cod, venus tusk fish and also bagged out on snapper.

The Double Island Point closer reefs and about 15nm and 20nm northeast of Wide Bay Bar have had nannygai, pearl perch, cobia, tusk fish, good snapper, hussar, moses perch, sweetlip, spangled emperor, red emperor, long tail tuna and some big cod.

Out from Hervey Bay there's been trevally as well as mackerel and tuna in Platypus Bay, with school mackerel, cod and trevally off Gatakers Bay.

The southern and northern gutter have had the odd coral trout, red emperor, mangrove jack, cod, sweetlip, tusk fish and nannygai while school mackerel are still biting from the mouth of the Burrum and river heads.

Estuaries, dams and beaches

Fraser Island has seen dart, whiting, trevally, bream, jew and plenty of tailor in the gutters.

A few keen anglers have been targeting quality spanish mackerel well out behind the breakers using drones to deliver their rigged baits and have been landing some big fish.

Please remember, that the annual closed waters area runs between Indian Head and Waddy Point from August 1 until September 30 every year.

So, during the closure period, all fishing is prohibited from the foreshore within this area from 400m south of Indian Head to 400m north of Waddy Point and continues 400m out to sea from the low tide mark.

At Rainbow Beach, tailor, kingfish, mackerel, bream and snapper are feeding off the rocks at Double Island Point.

There is spotty mackerel and long tail tuna from the barge crossing channel.

Tailor, bream, flathead and dart along the beaches and Inskip Point.

There is also some nice flathead between Rainbow Beach and Double Island Point, as well as at Carlow Point.

Barramundi, mangrove jack and estuary cod have been found in Kauri Creek.

Dams and rivers

LAKE McDonald has good schooling bass in the northern-facing bays along with bass and saratoga in the timbers on surface lures.

In Borumba Dam, yellowbelly are taking lure and bait in the timbers.

The odd saratoga and plenty of bass are taking surface lures, while there is quality bass in the timbers and in the Mary River and its tributaries.

In Noosa, chopper tailor, bream and whiting are along the Teewah stretch.

A few quality whiting up to 40cm have been caught on the flats throughout the lower river with some dusky flathead up to 55cm from the river mouth.

Grunter, bream, flathead and whiting have been reported out of Lake Cooroibah.

Trevally, tailor and jacks are starting to pick up in Woods Bays while big flathead and diamond trevally are along the Tewantin stretch.
