Mother's Day event draws big crowd

A MOTHER'S Day concert held at Saint Peter's Anglican Church Hall last Saturday drew a good attendance from mums and dads, pensioners and family groups.

The Reverend Andrew Cooper had some warm words of welcome for visitors and the performing Gympie Strings, as well as words of praise for the hard working group of church volunteers who had created the framework.

Tables had been set and beautifully decorated, and the St Peter's ladies' committee outdid themselves preparing and serving a delicious afternoon tea at interval.

Gympie Strings, led by Heidi Kath, played joyful light classical music, with duets by brothers Peter and Luke Doig, as well as Charity and Matthias Kauffman.

There were also solos by Maria Rankin on violin and Grace Rackemann, who played a furiously fast Irish gig to perfection on the viola - all to generous applause. The afternoon finished with The Entertainer by Janis Joplin, played by the ensemble.
