Colts cement place in finals with win over Wests
COLTS have cemented their spot in the 25/25 overs final against Harlequins in the Sunshine Mitre 10 A-league after beating Wests on Kozminsky Oval on Saturday.
The match was the final limited overs game of the season and teams were randomly allocated their competition for what was essentally an extra match.
It was also the decider match for a second finalist to play Harlequins on February 2, with both Colts and Wests still in the running.
Colts made a grand chase to overtake Wests' 106 runs, evenly distributed amongst the batting lineup.
Brendan Sauer made the biggest run tally for Wests, but still only with 28, while Wayne Sleeman scored 19.
Colts bowlers Anthony Smedon (2-16), Travis Chandler (2-16) and Jackson Waugh (2-21) made fairly easy work of Wests' ranks.
Jackson Waugh top-scored with the bat for Colts with 33, backed up by Neil McFarlane (26) and Scott Hughes (28).
An extra nine runs from Nathan Nolan was enough to get Colts across the line with seven wickets to spare.
The win has given Colts their second final to feature in this season, having already earned a spot in the one-day final against Harlequins on February 16.
The Sunshine Mitre 10 A-league will return to two-day matches this weekend, with Colts playing Wests again and Harlequins playing Valleys.
